Biography
Davy Lau is the Chairman of DGL Group Inc, a direct investment firm. Trilingual in Japanese, English, and Chinese, he is formerly a global partner at Egon Zehnder, where he spent 17 years, including 10 years as its Singapore Managing Partner and Co-Managing Partner of East Asia. While building the firm’s practice in the region, he has personally recruited hundreds of CEOs and other senior executives, as well as led management appraisal/coaching programs for teams and individual leaders/managers at various multinational companies and Asian enterprises. Since he took early retirement from Egon Zehnder, he has been serving as board directors and/or senior advisers to the boards or CEOs of public companies in the USA, Singapore, and Hong Kong, including Manulife US REIT (listed on SGX), International Housewares Retail (listed on HKEX), HiSoft Technologies International (listed on NASDAQ), etc. as well as private organizations such as Hong Kong-ASEAN Economic Cooperation Foundation, United World College Southeast Asia, and Make-A-Wish Foundation Singapore.
Davy has studied, worked, and lived many years each in Hong Kong, Japan, Australia, and currently Singapore. He has a significant track record of building and running multinational businesses in the Asia Pacific. In addition to the above roles, Davy also teaches an intensive program - “Launch Your Transformation”, a pre-requisite for all MBA students, annually at the National University of Singapore Business School since 2015, and has been mentoring hundreds of aspiring individuals through a pro-bono group, “Next-Gen Leaders” (NGL), which he founded also in the same year. In 2021, Davy authored his first book (in Japanese), which instantly became an “Amazon Japan #1 Bestseller” in its classification.
Davy is a naturalized Singaporean, born and raised in Hong Kong. He won the Hong Kong Government Scholarship for his secondary school studies at Diocesan Boys’ School in Hong Kong and was a Japanese Mombusho (Japan’s Ministry of Education) Scholar for his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Japan. He has a bachelor's degree from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in 1979 and a master of economics degree from Hitotsubashi University in 1981.
